Great food from appetizers to dessert! For starters, I highly recommend the Marin Miyagi Oysters served on the half shell with American Sturgeon Caviar, Fresh Horseradish, Lemon and Olive Oil. The main course was Cocoa Nib Crusted Rack of California Lamb cooked medium rare, and dessert was Honey Cannoli. None disappointed and the presentation was impeccable!
We were immediately seated. The wait staff was professional and attentive.
Our hats off to Chefs Tyja and Shelley! It may be a while since we live out of state, but we will be back.

Ambiance is rustic but at the same time elegant. Seasonal foods of the highest quality, prepared to perfection. Dinner perfectly paced by excellent service. We started out with the Diver's scallop - perfectly caramelized sweet giant scallop perched over succulent "just warmed" uni and a dollop of well seasoned mashed potatoes surrounded by a saffron sauce - HEAVENLY and our favorite dish. We also enjoyed the roasted beet salad - perfectly balanced in colors, textures and flavors. Entrees did not disappoint - butter tender filet mignon was surrounded by fresh morels (a real treat for us) and salmon was roasted with a juicy center and crispy skin. This is no budget restaurant, but is well worth the splurge and the wine list is reasonable

The food was excellent. The server, Joseph M., was most knowledgeable about all the ingredients and how each dish was prepared. He took special care of my special needs request for the chef to make and adjustment for me. He explained the wines in great detail including where the grapes were grown, and the process for wine making and the tastes to expect. The whole wait staff was gracious and welcoming. We celebrated a family occasion and this was a great culmination for the weekend.

Totally awesome meal
Every aspect of visiting the restaurant for dinner on Friday during the Memorial Day weekend was awesome. I had the baby beets salad which was one of the finest tasting salads I have ever had. Even though my companion suggested I try something other than the salmon, I was not disappointed. It was the best I have eaten, I believe. Kudos to all who help. The waiter was outstanding as he made sure we knew all about the food we were served. The room selected for seating was the right temperature as the late afternoon sun warmed the room.

Great place for a special occasion!
I had my wedding anniversary here, and was wonderful... Begin with the service excellent and accommodate to the customers. the place is very nice and well decorated. Arriving to the food, it was great...the best thing for me was appetizer with scallops was phenomenal.
It expensive but well worth for special occasions!

Outstanding dinner. Probably one of the best dinners we've ever had at a restaurant. The pork belly appetizer was delicious and the rack of lamb entree was fabulous. The mint sauce served with the lamb was very good and I am not normally a fan of mint. We had a wonderful salad made with butter lettuce. I hope they don't change the menu. We would like the same dinner again.

died and gone
think of everything a great restaurant should be, think Applewood Inn, Guereneville. Four hours of pure heaven in a wonderful setting. The wait staff was superb. Our waiter, an ex Napa Valley Chef helped with selections without actually recommending a specific item. His knowledge of the preparation and flavors of each meal was spot on. The salads, appetizers, and entrees were too good to explain. Go see for your self and thank me later,
Tyja is simply an amazing chef.
I've never had a disappointing meal here. The food is ALWAYS divine. I pretty much always get lamb for my entree, which is fantastic every time (especially last time since it was cooked extra rare for me!!!). But the other courses are so good! Scallops and uni, one time it was amberjack and uni, his salads are always delicious... mmmmmm. I even had Thanksgiving here last year it was sooooo delicious.
Tyja and Ken from Hana should do a meal together. Just saying.
I ditched my reservation at Equus for this restaurant after I read the reviews and no regrets! It was love at first bite:))
My husband and I had the 3-course dinner with wine. I had the crispy pork belly to start with, I had the lamb for entree and panna cotta for dessert. After I finished my meal, I thought I died and went to food heaven. Everything was delicious - like, really delicious. You cannot even make me choose which dish was the best - everything was delicious - EVERYTHING!
Service was 10 stars. Our waiter, Joe, was very thorough as he explained how each of the dishes were prepared. My mouth was also watery while he was describing each dish. I was trying to decide between the halibut and the lamb. It was a tough choice but Joe really helped me decide and I'm happy to announce that I made the right choice. Also, when the pretty lady brings the food to us, she would announce the dish first in an officious manner (not in a bad way at all) and put the plate down gently in front of us - so there is no confusion who gets what. I felt like I was having a formal dinner with Queen Elizabeth (lol). I can tell that each dish was special. From where I was sitting, I could see the chef working in the kitchen with his crew when the waiters open the door and I see them dancing, laughing and smiling. Oh wow, it's a happy kitchen. I like eating food prepared by happy people:))
The only downside is driving here was a bitch from Santa Rosa. It's a windy road and most people were driving slow. Just make sure you make ample time for driving - it could take 20mins to 30 mins from Santa Rosa. Overall, I'd say it was still worth the drive. I know I'm being redundant but it was really that good! It beats the French Laundry. lol
I can recommend this place on several levels. 1) service. Excellent. 2) quality : excellent. 3) friendly: superlative.
The restaurant is among the best. I loved the potato soup, the salad, the scallop dish. I scraped the plate on each of these dishes literally would have licked the plates if I wouldn't have looked ridiculous. I was not as much of a fan of the crab/cod dish although the nose was amazing. I ate every other dish to the surface of the plate it was so good. The hotel rooms are gorgeous and it has a hottub and jacuzzis in the room. What can I say that has not already been said. This is an excellent establishment. It shows in every element of their operation.

Making our second trip to the Sonoma/Russian River area in the last two months, we had reservations to Applewood for dinner. After a great dinner on a last trip, we were looking forward to another great meal.
Some new dishes we tried:
Marin Miyagi Oysters with American Sturgeon Caviar, Fresh Horseradish, Meyer Lemon, Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The oysters were so fresh and sweet tasting. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…)
Grilled Beef Strip Loin with Pancetta Roasted Potatoes, Maitaki Mushrooms, Delta Asparagus, Bone Marrow Bordelaise. Perfectly cooked medium rare with nice accompaniments of veggies. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…)
House Smoked Berkshire Pork Chop with Rhubarb, Celery, Gorgonzola, Meyer Lemon-SageBrown Butter. One of the best smoked pork chop that I've tasted. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…)
Pan Seared California King Salmon with Sweet Corn, Grilled Escarole, English Pea Puree, Crispy Fingerling Potatoes, Meyer Lemon-Horseradish Cream. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…)
Just like our dinner two months ago, this was another great meal from bread, appetizers, and entrees to dessert. We had the same server as our previous visit and again, he and the servers provided friendly top notch service.
This was the most lovely and relaxing get away my husband and I have ever enjoyed together! It was beautiful up there and the staff was so friendly. The (included) breakfasts and the dinner we enjoyed at the restaurant was AMAZING!!
